1969 80 merc no spark

i have a 1969 80 hp merc no spark .i installed new trigger in distrubitor and a new coil could it be the switch box

If all wires,spark plugs and leads test ok for continuity and all else has checked out,then I'm afraid so.

could it be a weak battery since its a thunderbolt ignition

Ah.I assumed that you were using a fully charged battery.But if the motor was turning over,weak or not,you would have had spark of some kind or another,presuming all else is working.So put on fully charged battery and if no spark,probably switch-box. Before you buy a new one,I just remembered the Mercury tilt switch,small barrel attached to the bracket in front of the distributor with one wire grounded and one to the switch box.Disconnect it from the distributor side of the switch-box and give it a go,with a fully charged battery. http://www.maxrules.com/oldmercs/Wiring/1966ona/30.gif .Wiring diaghram

the mercury tilt switch is fine so im going to have to bite the bullet and buy new switchbox.thank you for all the advice
