1969 25Hp Johnson power problem.

Idles and seems to run fine with the muffs on it. Launch boat and starts and idles fine. But get it to start to plane and it falls flat on its face and dies. Gas filter is clean, new fuel pump, and new gas. The bulb seems to be holding pressure (?)... Any ideas???
 
Almost classic stuff.-----Sounds like it is running on 1 cylinder.----So does spark jump a gap of 5/16" on a tester , yes or no ?---Test on both leads.----And do you know if coils have both been replaced ?

i BOUGHT THIS LAST YEAR AND BOTH COILS APPEAR TO BE NEW AS DOES THE FUEL PUMP. i WILL CHECK THE SPARK AND GET BACK TO YOU. ALSO DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE SPARK GAP IS? THEY ARE SET AT .040"
 
Ordinarily, I'd say the high speed orifice plug in the bottom of the carburetor is partly clogged. Except you say it starts to plane. Nevertheless, a complete fuel system checkup is in order.
