1969 18 horse Evinrude

My Evinrude wants to jump out of forward gear. I took the lower unit apart, and there is some wear on the clutch dogs. Is there a way to repair the dogs so that I don't have to spend bunches of money for new clutch dog and gears.? thank you very much.

You can try turning it around but if the gear is worn out it will do the same thing. You could try having a machine shop recut the dog and gear but i would bet that will be expensive.

Does the actual shift lever "jump" out of position also, or just the prop drive power?

I used a dremel tool to take off some of the rounded corners on the dog. I don't know how long it will last, but it is working fine now.
