"I just got this motor it has set up for 15 years but has low hours on it, I worked on it today, it has the thunderbolt ignition system, I havent worked on mercurys much I oiled cylinders and got it to fire it would crank but go dead I am going to clean carbs on it, also I was wondering if someopne could tell me how much trouble it is to change the impeller on this motor ? I have worked on evinrude a lot just wondering if it was similar on changing the impeller. is there anything else i need to do. it had 180 pounds COMPRESSION on 3 cylinders i didnt check the last one it was to hard to reach."

"Hi Wendell,never seen the low

"Hi Wendell, never seen the lower unit of a evinrude, but on the merc remove the three nuts and the bolt under the trim tab drop the unit there are three nuts and a screw on the pump cover, remove and replace the impeller.Make sure you put the key back and the impeller in the correct way.
To reach the bottom plug take out the four bolts connecting the the pan to the bracket and the two at the top of the bracket. The pan drops enough to get at the bottom plug and get the compression tester in.180psi?"

That lower hole is hard to ree

That lower hole is hard to reeach alright! If you've done OMCs you'll have no problems with this one.
