I need to replace the two check valves in the fuel pump shown.
Here is a picture of the two check valves below the diaphragm and gaskets.
The check valves are press fit into the fuel pump. They are beveled on one end, opposite of the end shown in the picture. I assume that is to aid in their installation or removal. The old ones will need to be pressed out (both at the same time) from the top opening of the fuel pump which is where the gas line from the fuel pump connects to the carburetor, and they will exit on the bottom opening of the fuel pump where the gas line comes in from line that goes to the fuel tank connector.
I suspect that Mercury used a special tool that fit perfectly over the end of the valves (that would be the end that you see in the picture), but loose enough that the tool wouldn't get stuck in the channel.
I am looking for instructions/recommendations on how to remove the old valves and install the new ones without damaging the fuel pump channel or the valves.
