I need to find a new lower uni

I need to find a new lower unit for my old 125 and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to find what all will fit. ie: year and horsepower ranges. Sorry for the misspelling

"Mike, the model 1250 Merc was very short lived. Only produced in the 68 and 69 model years.

I checked it against the 1150 (115 horse) models and they have different lower ends. That would have been my best guess for a match.

It kinda looks like this motor is a "super orphan" and you may have to find another 1250 for parts..."

"That's kinda strange because my neighbor across the street has the same motor in 69 vintage and some boat shop sold him what they say is a 90hp lower unit for it. That's why I was trying to see if anyone had any info, because ebay always has a ton for widely variatized stuff for sale...."

"What you need to do is find a dealer who will look up the part # of the lower unit.Then kindly ask (maybe even buy some oil/ sparkplugs / pump impeller,etc )to look it up in his where used cards or computer and then you will know what years will fit.Show some respect for a dealer's time and most will then take the time to help.Got a serial # for the motor???"

"Yeah but every time I look for it I have to go home and dig it up again. I will get it and post it here when I get home tonight. When I got the boat in 1994, I had to have the lower unit rebuilt($750). It had a broken pinion tooth and driveshaft was worn where the seals under the pump rode on it. It sounds like it may have a broken tooth again....seems like a better idea to replace it this time.."
