1968 9.5 Johnson No shift

Is the drive pin / shear pin in place in front of propeller ?-------Or drain gear oil to see what you have in there.

Inspection needs to be done over there.----I can not see, hear or feel your motor.----Maybe the driveshaft broke or gears are stripped.

THere is an up/down lever one side...other side has throttle control/shifter on the end of the handle. The end of handle won't twist.
The up/down controls neutral, reverse, forward. Then you control with the handle whose end won't twist. Thanks.

Sorry----I have about 10 of these 9.5 HP motors.---Worked on them when they were new in 1968 model year.------I am not just sure what you are doing and describing !!!

apologies, this my first outboard. The handle with which you steer and control the throttle will not twist/turn....I cannot twist it to change from fast slow etc...
The linkage inside the motor from there does not move. Thanks.

So you can shift the motor in and out of gear ?---Check that by turning the prop.----And does the flywheel turn when you pull on the recoil ?----Did the seller give you any instructions on what to do with this motor to get it running ?----Fuel is mixed at 50:1 on this motor.----Water pump impeller need to be changed.-----Motor must not be run dry or out of the water.----Find an owners manual and read it before your first fishing trip.

THanks, a dysfunctional motor will not stop fishing, little ol electric pushes us around Puget Sound just fine. I am looking foward to getting 9.5 going again, it was fun out there too.

I've taken off the bolts that secure the handle to the motor. when I try to twist the accelerator handle, the linkage inside does not move. Something is not allowing that linkage to move. Thanks.
