Hey Everyone, first post here.

I have been given a 1968 6hp CD-25A engine, The shifter handle has been snapped off and i am trying to figure out how to remove and replace it. I have had a look in the parts manual for a diagram, but nothing really tells me how it is held on. This is the first outboard i have played on so be prepared for alot of questions! But i'll make sure i use the search function first!

Cheers Josh

You have to pull the power head ! ---------Not that hard to do,-----You can inspect bottom crankshaft seal at tha same time.

Ahh bugger! Not a prob, thanks for getting back to me. I've already fixed the starter mechanism, all that i need to do now is fix the shifter and hopefully fire it up!!

Bloody hell that lever is stuck in there good and proper!! I can turn the lever with force, but it wont pull out, even wd40 wont make it budge!

I have the screw out and the bracket at the end of the shifter shaft is off, I cannot see anything holding it in there. I have soaked it in some lubricant and will give it another go tomorrow.

Gently heat the housing with a propane torch...the aluminum will expand and the shifter should easily slip out

I heated and i sprayed all types of lubricating stuff on it but it was stuck solid so i had to unfortunately drill it out. I'm going to make my own shifter for it as i'm not paying $130 for a shifter for an engine that may not even run. I have some steel rod the right size and i take it i'm going to have to put a recess into it to run an o-ring to seal it?
