1968 40 h.p. shuts down

After running for a while the engine shuts down and will not start till it cools off. Whats wrong here? BTW its an Evenrude.

Waterpump may need to be looked at.----------History on the motor always helps !--------How long have you owned it ?-------Is this something that happened suddenly or slowly got worse over time ?---------When was the motor looked at by a competent shop ?

I just got the boat, my brother had it and said it started all the sudden.

Also pull the flywheel off and inspect the ignition system. ----Two coils , 2 sets of points and 2 condensers.
