I have a 1967 6hp johnson that needs a replacement carb. The stock carb part number is 381984. That carb is very hard to find. Does anybody know of another horsepower carb that will work on this engine and what the part numbers might be? i have found several on ebay that resemble the one that I need but I am unsure that they will work. Any kind of information would be helpful. Thank you

Re: 6hp johnson replacement carb?

Where are you located??-----------------Nothing goes wrong with a carburetor that warrants complete replacement.-----------Maybe the carburetor is missing on a new to you motor ?--------------------The 6 HP is one of the nicest fishing motors you can own.-----------Was essentially the same from say the mid 50's to late 70's--------any carburetor from a 65 to say a 79 will work.

Re: 6hp johnson replacement carb?

Central missouri. Motor came with carb. It always had a fuel problem. I have had it apart several times; checking it out and cleaning it. Someone had been in there before me and burgered up the main jet holder and jet and also had did some drilling to the bowl drain, for what ever reason. That's why I have been looking for another complete carb. Don't hurt to have a good one and one for parts. You believe that a carb from 65 to 79 will work, up to what horsepower?

Re: 6hp johnson replacement carb?

They don't know..................They told me to post on here to see if anybody on here would know why the part number is one number different. Guess my only option is to order and match it up to my other one; see if everything looks right. I also checked the part numbers for 1969-75 carbs, again the part number is one number off.
