I am new to the forum and have just recently purchased a pontoon with a 1967 Mercury 650 four cylinder. The motor runs fine and shifts into gear and continues to run when not in the water. When I put it in the water and try to shift into gear it will die. I can increase the throttle and shift into gear and it will continue running. Also it takes a while to reach top speed. Thanks in advance for any information.
