"The driven shaft in the lower

"The driven shaft in the lower end was scored at the water pump seals. Found a replacement and purchased it. Unfortunantly, what is out there is the 14 spline, 19" version. I have the old 8 spline 18" version. After going through the grist mill on this one the local boat store was able to hook me up with a machine shop that would refurb my OEM shaft. Great!
Now after10 weeks I have my shaft back. I can think of a dozen jokes referencing the word "SHAFT". Enuf sayd! Go ahead, say it.
It is still miserable cold here. There is still snow on the ground. Just a short while ago I finished the assembly on the outdrive. It is solid, tight and smooth. The shifter is at 1200 and 1000 for the shift locations. Thanks for the help.
I want to jump up and down and just go crazy. The outdrive has been the most tedious task of this year and a half long rebuild. There's a bunch of people in my home right now but no one here besides myself has the passion that I have for this work. This love of boating.
So my brethren of the seas, my peers of the passion, my wretched friends of the wrench, I share with you this moment. I have a newly rebuilt 1967 MC-1 outdrive.
Many, many thanks to all of you who have helped me get to this very satisfying moment in this build. What a day!

isn't the shifter suppose

isn't the shifter suppose to be at 12 for Forward and 10/11 for Reverse ? I had a '67 with a 120 in a V-174 Glastron (sweet little thing) and used the drive on my '74 165hp.

Good luck !!! Can't wait for the warmer air myself.

If you really can't wait.....you could always hookup the trailer and drive south several hundred miles, find a lake that didn't have a solid surface on it, and give it a whirl. We refer to those trips as a "Mental Health day" - and do it on a monday or friday and it's just as long as a holiday weekend."

I hear ya, I hear ya. I have a list of items that I have to finish up before I can get her wet. We have set the launch date as April 29th. We have the lake, the ramp and the champagne picked out. I have convinced my neighbor to go along on the first day as a chase boat. Just in case Murphy comes with us. Murphy is a mariner. I see him at the lake all the time.
Brian, 1200/1000 that's 24 hour time so yes sir you are correct, 12 fwd, 11 neutral, 10 reverse. I learned a valuable lesson some weeks back. You can install the shift crank backards on this model. Took me a couple times to get it right.
