1967 johnson v4 2 stroke carb help?

just got a 1968 Johnson caprice with 90hp v4 2 stroke DU-14DR. after cleaning carb "massive rust"...a single inline 4 horizontal with long plastic bar on top with rich/lean adjustment? it also attaches to belt driven distributor.
Bowls fill with fuel but none to motor. pour fuel into intake runs great. I have re-built carb to as close to factory specs as I can. needles and jets look good...but could be bad...have not been able to find new parts. all reeds look great...Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So you've got fuel to the carburetor but obviously not going through it.

I just looked through my 1968 parts book to refresh my memory somewhat. Yes, those 4 barrel in line carburetors with their spring loaded float needle valves were a PITA! I had to experiment and drift away from the method the factory stated to set those floats but it was so long ago, I don't really remember exactly how I did it.... Doing away with the spring thing and setting the floats as I would any other rings a bell.

Also the slow speed needle valves...... As a starting point, I had them gently seated then backed out 1-1/2 turns. then as the engine ran, I'd be turning them in (one at a time) slowly until the rpms started to drop or the engine would spit back, at which point, I'd back the needle valve out 1/4 turn and go to the next needle valve. The idle rpm would need resetting from time to time as the needle valves being adjusted caused the rpms to increase.

The high speed jets, if you haven't already, carefully clean them all with a piece of single strand steel wire as solvent just doesn't do that job properly.

That (the above) should allow fuel to flow through the carburetor (hopefully). Let us know how things go for you.

well I reset all again. still no change. warmed up engine by pouring fuel in carb forever...still no change... looks like no vacuum???? If I make my own cover plate before reeds and mount 4 mikuni dirt bike carbs on it would it work??? works on volkswagens...lol

Well ??????????

Boobie.... There are some that just have no interest in communicating with us once their engine problem is solved. However, I don't want to jump to conclusions as this poor fellow may have fell down the cellar steps and is just laying there without a cell phone waiting for a burglar to break in that may save him..... or not. Whatever the reason, I'm sure that with a engine that old, and as we both know... that troublesome... new posts will appear in time that we can study, and should we have the answer, of course we could pass along that helpful advice... should we decide to do so.

I know I will have to think about passing some of this info along if the OP'S can't answer you back. Good subject to think about.

its hard to answer everyone... but im trying. i cleaned the 4 blocked ports in bottom of carb.. THe problem was that the manual sent to me had arrows and notes stating that they were sealed ports not jetted ports. thanks to everyone on this site I was able to go in and clean out. the best tip was that cleaning and soaking dose not work to clean those jets out.

Those are not "ports"... They are the "high speed jets" that I suggested you clean with a wire. It's best to call the component what it is so as not to confuse us. Glad you got the engine straightened out.
