I am new to the site and am looking for some guidance. I am new to outboards but have experience with atv's and snowmobiles. My johnson has been running well. this week it started to not rev all the way up and it seems like it is not getting enough fuel. The tank and hose I have been using are almost new and has been working well. I also have another tank and hose. I have replaced any fittings that seemed like they were old. I feel like I have eliminated the possibility that it is the tank or hose. The motor starts right up first pull and idles fine. in neutral it will rev up but if I go from Idle to wot it seems to bog then the rpms climb. once in gear it will drive normally at low rpm. but once try to push it it will rev up and bog. It will get nowhere near to full rpm. if I pull the choke it will bog down like it normally would and once I push the choke back in it will climb in rpm for a couple seconds then bog down. If i pump the manual pump on the hose while I go it will run normally.

I suppose you have checked the filter in the fuel pump cap? Otherwise, sure sounds like a bad pump, right? I only reach that conclusion because you said it runs normal if you squeeze the bulb. Hey, you sound like the kind of guy that ought to have, or get one, a fuel pressure gage. Not expensive, usually combined with a vacuum gage. Tee it into the pump outlet hose and KNOW if you are getting adequate fuel delivery to the carburetor. I believe in quit guessing, and TEST. Saves money and time.

The fact that the engine runs normally when you pump the fuel primer bulb ( acting as a manual fuel pump) indicates a faulty fuel pump.
