"I am a wee bit mad this morning so if a rant too much please forgive me. It is a 1967 120 type MR. The hull is mostly finished and we installed the gimbal house late Sunday. The gasket is cork and it looks to be thicker than 1/8 inch. Really, its massive for a gasket.
We were patient, we checked our torque wrench was in spec, we were timely in applying the adhesive. The holes were hit with a tap for cleanliness. The bolts are new with Permatex gasket seal on them. The fit up went well. We started the torque sequence at 8 ft/lbs becasue that is where the house and plate started to snug up. We did a criss cross pattern for the full sequence and went in 2 ft/lb increments to 16 lbs. The Seloc and Cylmer manual both indicate 20-25 ft/lbs for transom bolts. It looked so good we patted ourselves on the back.
Got home last night and was to finish the last four lbs of torque to 20 lbs. I have a half inch of gasket mushroomed out the bottom of the gimbal house.
I am ordering another gasket today and another tube of polyurethane adhesive.
I would have bet good money that this task was a done deal. I still can't figure out how I blew this because everything went the way it was suppose to.
Any suggestions, ideas or comments? Not looking for a shoulder, just some perspective."

"Well, here it is a couple hours later and just finishing up lunch. My son has been running down this issue of ours also. He did a search on "Ayuh". Sound familiar?? And a sub search on the gasket number. Wound up at the IBoats website.
He found a post from December 2008 where this has been kicked around. As it appears we are using the wrong gasket. Also, on our bottom carriage bolts we used lock washers vice locking nuts. This may have affected the torque settings.
So, even with all the planning it appears errors were made. Another reason I am very thankful that others that have traveled this road are willing to share.
Gotta love the frog ....."
