"I've got a 67 6 horse fisherman that is over heating. I can't seem to get the lower unit free to check the impeller, I pulled the 4 bolts and it comes down about a 1/2 inch and that's it. I have not put allot of pressure on it as I don't want to make things worse. Any suggestions??"

you should be able to see the

you should be able to see the shift rod connecter

I believe this motor requires

I believe this motor requires powerhead removal to release the shift rod and drop the lower unit. This is not really a big deal....you will need a new gasket and possibly a propane torch to heat any frozen bolts....Don't force anything...The heat from the torch will usually enable all the bolts to come out without breaking...Good luck

"Thanks for the feed back..I&#

"Thanks for the feed back..I've purchased a repair and parts cd that's on the way.. That should detail out how to remove the powerhead to release the lower unit.. I'll let you know how it goes, thanks again..."

The powerhead does not need to

The powerhead does not need to come off. When you remove the 4 bolts and the lower unit drops the shift connecter reveals itself.Simple really.

I just went to the manual and

I just went to the manual and Ikia is correct...
I was thinking of the older version this motor(Prior to 1965)...so much for my memory
