1967 80 hp v4 ignition problem negative cable smoking

Ok here we go! I wasnt geting spark and found my ignition coil was cracked so i put one on it of of a parts motor. And still no spark.so im guessing its bad too. I checked ohms with meter i cant get nothing but the part that puzzles me is now when i tried to start the negative cable to battery is getting really hot and smoking and the positive cable from solenoid to starter is doing same thing. So i guess question is with igintion coil bad could it be grounding out. Or do i have another problem also
 
Maybe the starter motor is no good.-----Trouble shooting needs to be done.----Not sure why you focus on the coil ?
 
If BOTH cables are getting hot and smoking, that would be a dead giveaway that way too much amperage is going through them. And that would most likely be because of a dead short somewhere---probably in the starter. But don't jump to conclusions---check it out.

I started out focused on the coil bc. It was turning over and starter was engaging and i realized i was getting low spark to begin with so put a tune up kit on and still low spark . Thats when i noticed the coil was cracked bad on back side so i changed it but with one of a spare motor Tried to start it and then thats when i saw how hot it was getting

Would the starter still engage
 
Ok my timing on distributor was off i fixed it and changed all main battery cables cleaned all grounds. She fired right up and ground is not getting hot. and idles fine but if i get on it in water under load it wants to bogg down and flood out. It will go to take off and then all of a sudden rrrgh rrgh rrgh like its getiing air or too much gas then all of a sudden take off and plane out. But if i back off of throttle it will not go back to full speed or will cut off and be flooded and carb body will be cold and condensation coming of of it
