" We had it running on single pulls. We washed and wiped it down and I think some moisture got to the coil mounted on the motor. Checked with Tecumseh-obsolete-no parts available. No manual.Coil checks @ 250ohms with voltmeter to plugwire socket & 51ohms thru the coil to the spark plug electrode. Is there a capacitor or condensor in this system that might have blown? It was running fine at idle as we were cleaning it up and died as soon as I sprayed engine cleaner near the coil. Any word on parts availibility or manual would be good to know about. The RJ12YC Champion plug checks @ 48ohms on the volt meter continuity-wise. Best Regards,Doc "

" Doc, I have no specific knowledge of your motor, but since no one else posted... There is usually a capaciter connected to the points. Probably you can get one from a lawnmower shop. You can check the cap with a voltmeter. Connect the positive lead to the cap wire, and the megative lead to the metal body. Set the voltmeter for continuity check. This will charge the cap. After a second, change the voltmeter to DC voltage and you should get a momentary reading of voltage.

I would look over the coil for cracks or any damage done by the engine cleaning stuff you used. The coil should be waterproof. Also make sure the points are clean and gapped properly.

I would try the same lawnmower shop to see if you can get a coil that is close to the original, if it is indeed bad. Also, Sears may have spare parts. I think Tecumseh made their Gamefisher motors. Also try Eska. They may share parts.

" Thanks Chris,the coil should be moisture proof, but the epoxy is pulling away from the thin metal case- didn't notice till I exposed it when I pulled it off the side of the motor. The motor is a Ted Williams 7hp solid state ignition model. There is no visible # on the tecumseh air cooled single cylinder. I'm just not familiar with what components are involved with solid state of 1967 era. Sears says no parts available as does Tecumseh. It has Sears chassis#217-59440&serial # 164828. 7115 is stenciled on the epoxy face of the coil& I have610785B as the coil part# from Tecumseh. Hesitant to pull the rotor off the main pull-crank shaft to expose the stator of the magneto without drawings or manual; the solid state components are located beneath this assembly. The coil hot lead disappears under the magneto/crank hsng. The front name plate states: TWIST-GRIP--CLUTCH-SHIFT..."shallow water drive". I suspect the coil may be toast but I wanted to make sure before atempting to wind and seal a new coil that there was no chance of finding a relacement- also some specs to work to could save some wasted efforts on my part. I'd already checked with most every small engine, marine engine, and lawnmower repair shop in the area. I'll go back and see if any of them might have Eska parts that might substitute for the originals. I'd be suprised to find a set of points in the solid state component mix but suspect there could be a capacitor/condensor involved in a motor like this '67 pre-electronic igniton system. Also at the 1/2 gallon top gas tank the label states to use only leaded gas mixed with 30SAE oil (non-detergent type)-- It states: DO NOT USE UNLEADED FUEL-I intend to ignore this as it is probably referring to "white naptha gas" used in Coleman mantle-type stoves&lanterns- Unleaded gasoline did not see much use here in Michigan till after 1970 though it was in use in New England states in the mid60s as a pollution control protocol. Anyway I hope I don't have to reverse engineer a new coil on my own...I'll be taking a day trip to the semilocal boat&motor graveyard before that happens...Thanks again Chris for your reply it seems there is always a fresh maniac out there with a new worm or virus or trojan gummin' up these 'puter worx. 1971 made by eska block # 639-11. there should
be a tag on the carb mounting stud. That ign.
dont have points or cond. And are hard to find even used.
