I have this old motor CD24D of my dads who is deceased and wanted to rebuild it. It needs a new crankcase because there is a crack in one of the cylinders. I'll have to find one on ebay or if someone on here has parts?

I have a few questions, How hard is it to rebuild for a first timer? I'm good with car engines, turbos and transmissions but never touched a small motor.

What will I need in the rebuild? Bearings? gaskets and pistons?....

I'm always a person who likes to do it themselves and learn but what do you guys think? Just pay someone to do it? Buy a used powerhead complete?

Thanks in advance, I'm sure I'll bug you guys with alot of questions haha

I would rebuild it myself, the first and most importance thing you need is a service manual, it will have step by step procedures for the rebuild. then ask lots of questions on here.

So as I stated I'm new to boat motors, Are they interchangeable with different year powerheads? I need a new cylinder so If I cant find a crankcase I might have to swap in another years?
