Hi guys, I don’t know if I’m double posting or not since I can’t find my other post.
Anyway, I’ve taking my outboard apart completely from top to bottom to try and make it as up to date as possible.
I took off the flywheel to make sure the points were set correctly, or needed to be replaced, when I noticed one of the ignition coils was cracked and both wires were corroded to the point of being detached completely. It makes sense that the 2nd cylinder wasn’t firing.
I’ve done some tracking for a replacement and I’ve found 2 replacements on eBay for about $100 each, one is 398-2568a1 and the other 398-2568t1.
My question is if it is possible to repair the coil to save money? Or would it be possible to use a similar coil that I’ve seen online. They say they’re for other outboards like Johnson, but they look the same, and measure out to be the same. Would something be harmed if used them, or would it simply not work?
I will have more questions down the line for this restoration, and
I will try to respond with solutions that worked.
