1966 Johnson Super Sea Horse point problem

I am new to boating repair and I have obtained, through a family member, a 1966 Johnson Super Sea Horse model V4SL-18. It runs great when it runs. However, they have been having trouble with the points burning up after two or three starts and only about 1/2 hour of use. The points have been replaced a couple of times with the same outcome. I think that the issue may be something electrical or somethiung other than the points themselves. If anyone has any ideas of what might may be causing the continuos burning of points it would help out tremendously. I am getting the motor on Saturday and I have ordered new points and a condenser. Thanks for any input

The points on that magneto should last for seasons.------Bad condenser may affect the life.----Is wiring still all original ?----Any chance 12 volts is being applied to that magneto ?

I have a new condenser on order right now. All of the wiring is original and to be honest this is my first go at a repair so how would I check what voltage is being used and what voltage should be used? I ordered a new owners/repair manual but I don't have it yet.
