Hello everyone! I have a 1966 Johnson super seahorse 40hp and would like to know how to adjust the idle. After it is warmed up and the start knob is up if I put it in gear it'll die. But if I do it quick and the start knob down aliitle it'll go fine. Thanks for the help

Do you have spark that will jump a gap of 5/16" on both leads , yes or no?------And have you done a compression test ?-------Is the motor " new to you " or owned it for many years ?

I got the motor last year and it wouldn't run. With a little bit of work I got it running but notice somebody before me went through it and did not put it back together right. I did a compression test last year and each cylinder was around 105. This winter I rebuild the carb and the entire ignition. I have not done the spark plug gap test yet. Is there any way to do it without the tester?

From post # 1 here I suspect it is electric shift.-------And yes there is a constant voltage draw by the electro-magnets when motor is in gear.-------Get the motor running properly before looking for a generator.

I'll do a gap test on it. Is it going to hurt it not having the generator? Or juat drain the battery faster? And thank you for your help. I really appreciate it! :)

You could damage shift springs.----It could leave you stranded with no forward or reverse.-----Motor itself will run with a dead battery.
