Hey All, I'm curious to see how can I remove top seal without disassembling crankcase? I heard there's a possible puller of some kind woundering if anybody can help me out. The motor was running mint until it started to run very lean and when I put bearing grease around seal she runs normal. Don't want to tear it apart if I don't have to.Thanks in advance for any help.

Yeah that's right, the seal puller looks like a piece of pipe with external threads that screw into the seal to get a grip on it. And it has a bolt in the middle which presses down on the crankshaft to give the pulling force on the pipe.

I think you will find that the 6 HP has a metal slinger !!--------There is no rubber lip seal on it.-----Never needs replacing.-----So what is the motor doing / not doing ??----Time to look for the real problem here.

It does have a seal, you're thinking of the earlier or evinrude model. Basically I wouldn't have full rpm maybe half and then the head would start to get hot. Looked at the plugs and defenitly running too lean(very white looking especially the top plug). Cleaned carb, points 20's of an inch. When I put bearing grease over top seal, I get my full rpm and spark plugs become normal again. So I'm pretty confident about the top seal!

Any hoot, managed to get seal off. Drilled 2 small holes then put 2 screws and lightly tapped them out. I was very surprise that it only took maybe 5 min. I did notice that there wasn't any sealant around the old seal or crank case halves. Maybe that's why she wasn't sealing. Forgot to mention that I got this motor with it's state unknown. Other than the seal problem it seems to be close to mint condition, this is the only reason I'm tickering with it. Thanks again!
