1965 Century Fireball - Why does starter hang

[1965 Sabre]

Rebuilt Graymarine Fireball flywheel forward engine. Never started. First attempt starter continues to crank after key is released. Have had starter and solenoid rebuilt and still hangs until battery is disconnected. Electrical has been double checked including switch, solenoid and wiring. Anyone experienced same ??

Never seen one do that....have you check to see if the starter hangs due to a mechanical or electrical issue?

guessing the solenoid is not wired correctly causing it to"lock in"
