The engine shifts fine. It als

The engine shifts fine. It also runs great. when I put it into gear and start to move it slips. I checked the prop it seems to look ok. Nice and tight. I tried to drop the lower unit but it seems to be stuck on there. I was told the problem is in the gear box and to split it at the bottom where the screws are at. Befor I start to take this lower unit apart I would like to get a second opinion. Please help!!!

Tim can you keep it from slipp

Tim can you keep it from slipping as much if you hold the shifter in gear?
Is it slipping only under load or anytime it is put in gear?
Is it just in forward or reverse as well?
Any sign of metal flakes in the gear oil?

No signs of metal in oil. It c

No signs of metal in oil. It could use some new oil down there. I did try to hold the shift lever it didn't help. And yes it happens in reverse also.........

Well it's hard to say without seeing it but it does sound like the shift lever in the gear case may have a problem or the shift linkage. Did you ever remove the phillip head screw in the bottom of the gear case?
My guess the reason it will not come off is you did not disconnect the shift rod coupler. It's under a plate on the side of the drive housing. One bolt must be removed from the coupler and the other one loosened.

thats a good guess I was just looking at that out in the garage. I gues I will look at it good. Take it apart clean it all up. Inspect the parts and add new oil.

Tim if it only slips under a l

Tim if it only slips under a load check the hub in the prop before you do anything else. The rubber sometimes looses it's bond to the hub and will slip under high load.
