Hello! First post here. This summer we bought a pontoon with a 65 18hp evinrude on it. The lower unit grenaded on us, and a local shop put a used on one. We put the motor back on the pontoon, and anything over a little bit of throttle it slips. So we have just been going slowly with it. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Propellers are actually three pieces..... (1) a bronze hub, (2) the aluminum prop, and (3) vulcanized rubber between the two such as a motor mount. Occasionally the vulcanized rubber fails and allows the aluminum prop to slip around on the rubber. This is referred to as a spun/slipping prop or spun/slipping hub.

The prop slips at the higher rpm due to the increase in water pressure on the blades.

Install another propeller or have that propeller re-hubbed at a reliable propeller shop.
