Ok, I'm going start with I know this sounds crazy...buuuuut...I have a 1964 Evinrude Speeditwin that I've been running for years in an 'as is' state with no problems. I went to hook up the battery again this year and noticed the leads are backwards. I don't normally pay attention as the terminals only go on one way due to the different size posts (to confirm, the +/Pos is the larger of the two posts).
Well I've looked at this multiple times and its hurting my brain. I can't really dispute that it IS backwards, I'm trying to understand HOW its working without issue. I even tried this with another battery as I thought mine might've been mismarked.
The +/Pos post (which is the larger of the two) is currently going to my engine block. The -/Neg post is going to the solenoid box which ends up on the side of the starter. it cranks and runs perfectly. Since I thought I was going crazy, I switched the leads and briefly spun starter and it went backwards. How is this possible? I swear I've looked at this on multiple different days since I thought I was going crazy and its driving me nuts.
Any input?
