Hello I just wanted to confirm something with my 64 merc 500.
I removed the exhaust manifold cover the other day and noticed that there are two gaskets surrounding the exhaust plate when my manual says there only should be one.
One gasket mates to the block and exhaust plate and the other mates to the exhaust plate and the exhaust manifold cover. This seems correct and logically it makes sense but I still wanted to double check to make sure I'm not stuffing more in there than I should. It seems like my manual and every online source I can find says I only need one of these gaskets. They're identical to each other as far as I can tell.
A diagram can be viewed at this link http://www.marineengine.com/parts/m...1755548/cylinder-block-and-crankcase-assembly and the gasket in question is number 37.
Thanks!
