1964 Evinrude not accelerating

I have a 1964 Evinrude Bigtwin 40hp serial # 40453s. While on the river yesterday, I ran into a couple sandbars and lightly hit a log. After I stuck the last sandbar the boat would no longer get above 4-5mph. The motor goes into gear fine but at approximately 1/4 throttle and up, the engine just revs up. I do not hear any grinding sound while driving at low speeds and drove over a mile like this. The motor shifts into reverse and forward without any problems.

I was told this might be the prop. The prop is pin driven. It is obviously an old prop, on the inside of the prop it is all metal (I believe it is brass).

Has anyone had a similar problem before? Could it be something other than the prop?

No it is not all metal !-----There is a rubber hub inside that you can not see.---------Try another prop, since likely this rubber hub is slipping.
