i followed directions for setting and syncing everything up for idle i got it all set to idle good and to have full throttle power ran great on hose and it seemed just right and then put it into the water and starts right up idles fine in and out of gear but as soon as open uo the throttle it bogs out and stalls and couldnt get it set right does anyone know why it wont run right in the water but was running right on the hose or got any ideas on how to fix it?

you already cleaned the carbs, I assume? You can't set the mixture on the hose. I changes a lot leaner without the exhaust underwater.

i went to mess and adjust the other mixture the high speed jet it is behind a bolt and got to pull out bolt reach in there with side screwdriver to adjust well the top of bolt snapped of inside there does anyone have a idea what i should do about that? it still runs and idles perfect in water and out of water on the hose it will go right into having full power in gear in water it wont wont is there a way to get it to run that good in the water without adjusting that high speed jet? even if take apart the carb can i get to that from the other side to get out? and there both so hard to get to i dont see even if fix that how i could adjust them on the water

I don't think the high speed jet is adjustable !!-------Only the low speed jet is adjustable and that is what needs adjusting to get rid of the bog on acceleration.-----------Very common problem on Mercury outboards.----So why would you try adjusting " high speed " when it was mentioned to try adjusting the low speed mixture needles ???

maybe thats what it was there is only 2 adjustments on the carbs the idle and the other its what the manual i found on the internet told me to adjust it said tighten in gear until stalls then back off half a turn or should be close to 1 and a half turns from tight started to mess with and the screw head snapped off everything is so old and sensitive in this thing and its not like the idle where has a big easy to get to screw you take off a bolt with a gasket on it and its back inside there a little bit is there a way to readjust the idle and magneto enough to get it to run decent without messing with that?

The high speed jets in the bottom of the carburetor are NOT adjustable.--------Some manuals just do not have the facts!

oh yeah the manual said to do that and there was just a screw in there the manual said to turn and adjust. if i cant adjust that then how do i adjust the low speed idle there is only that adjustment and the idle screw?

Please understand that only the low speed mixture needles are adjustable and the high speed jets are fixed and not adjustable by the average user.--When you understand how things work then repairs become much easier.-----Perhaps look on U-TUBE for a tutorial on setting up your carburetors.
