Hey all,

just an bought what I thought was a steal, a 63 Merc 350 35hp complete with controls and cables as well as gas tank for a hundred bucks.. It has been sitting for 14 years but I got home and hooked a battery up and it cranked over..quit.. Turned it over again, and fired up for a sec.. After that though I had no juice to start it.. Battery wasn't dead so I started it with a screwdriver on the solenoid and the starter engaged..

So... How can you tell if it's a bad solenoid or if their is a problem with the ignition switch?

secondly, what kind of things would be good for a tuneup on something that has been sitting for 14 years..

3rd, does anyone know where I can find a service manual online for it or any other detailed information

thanks in advanced!

First of all. don't try to run that thing before changing the impeller or you'll have broken vanes stuck inside the power head--not good!

Jump the starter directly to see if the starter is okay.

The carbs, fuel pump and hose will need rebuilding/ replacing.
