1963 Johnson impeller replacement

I have 1963 johnson 18hp in need of a new impeller. Question is do I have to pull the power head to replace. I'm use to doing it on the '50s motors just making sure I don't need to on this one. It appears to be able come out by dropping lower unit. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Remove side plate (2 screws) from side of long exhaust housing.
Remove just one bolt from the brass shift connector you see inside there.
Remove the lower unit retaining bolts.
Drop the lower unit.

That's is what I thought it looked like was going on with the side plate being there. I guess it will be the same on my 59 johnson 18 also. Thanks for the help.

Yep, only the 5.5hp and 7.5hp and some 6hps require powerhead removal.
