"So my dad retired/moved and left me the boat and I have my first issue.
After having difficulties shifting into reverse I inspected the lever arm on the motor and was able to pull the entire lever arm out of the motor. Figuring this was a bad thing, we called it a day and took the boat home.
It looks like there should be some sort of a retaining ring that holds the cylinder in place to counter the spring pushing the cylinder out. Can anyone confirm this?"
