I am new to the forum and I have a 1963 20 hp mercury outboard, I am currently restoring the motor and have spark to the plug wire , however not to spark plug, the plugs are good, when the plug is placed against the block it will not show spark, Is there a short in the kill switch? thanks Zeb

have you tried new plug wires and how do you know that there is spark to the plug wires and on what side the coil or plug side ? And are the plugs brand new? how do you know they are good ?

the sparks are new, I actually got poked by the trying to test the plug against the block, but when I would place it against the block it wouldn't spark, I am really confused on this, I know it sounds crazy!

i would try a spark tester next you can get them at auto zone for about 10 dollars and try that sometimes you don't get a good ground with doing it on the motor

Did you (or ??) put new plug wires on it? The correct wires have a metal core--not like car wires.
