Hi All
I am missing parts to my carb for the above engine and rather than spend loads of money on parts was going to replace with a decent 2nd hand one after weeks of searching I may of found one however it looks different to mine although same year and hp.
How would I know if this one would fit as its in America so want it to b right?
Please see images below as its slightly different.
The one with the fuel pump is an image like mine the the other two are images of the one on ebay which has exactly the same front and looks the same apart from the big red thing on the side which I am guessing is something to do with an auto choke maybe?

My thanks in advance
Jon.

Your motor appears to be a 28 HP model not a 40 HP, thus the difference in parts.--------The 62 electric start 40 HP was equipped with with the hot water automatic choke.---Yours does not show that item. -----------You are looking for parts from a 28 or 33 HP model.

Hi Racerone
Thanks for that I did notice that when I put in the number in however the hood says 40hp.
Is there a way I can confirm it with the serial number or is the model number the best way as it is massive for a 28hp.
It actually has a Johnson Electric start hood on it.

Does not much matter what hood is on your motor !---Other years / hoods fit nicely.----From a picture of your motor I could tell in about 2 seconds whether it is 28 or 40 HP.

Thanks to all for the answers,I have put on all new points coils etc for a forty hp engine I guess they are not one fits all.
Strange the marine shop never questioned the serial number model number etc when its parts were ordered.
A 28hp will be no good to me as sadly I do not think it will push the boat it was intended for bit of a dilemma if I have to start again lol

Points were all the same for many , many years like 1951 to early 1980's.---Same ignition system used on 3 hp to 40 hp engines.

I will try and push on with it as its supposed to go on the back of a Shetland 535(17ft) I have seen a 30 on the back of some of them however it is for use for sea fishing in the Uk.
I am missing loads of bits for the carb however trying to actually work out all the bits is doing my head in and due to the age of the engine the support in the Uk is not all that.
I have include some images of my Carb but basically it looks like all the linkage on the right hand side as you look at it plus the choke return spring on the left and the low speed needle plus the inner bearing and packing etc plus the adjusting knob and screw the list grows lol
Please see the images below I guess mine should look like the one on the right but all I have is the bit being held.I have tried to upload photos of mine.

Post a picture of the exhaust housing to identify your motor as suggested in post # 4 some time ago.----It is rare that the 28 HP has the generator.---Perhaps your motor is a 40 HP that has had the wrong model # plate installed on it for some reason.------------Is this motor electric shift ?----The linkages shown in the picture have to to with preventing you from pulling the recoil with throttle too far open.----One other clue that I see as well, post picture of the ends of the hose that goes by the generator in picture #3 ----Perhaps your motor also has the wrong carburetor on it now !

This is interesting. I have check model number 35028 on several web sites, and Hunns book, and all but marineengine.comm list this as a 1962 40hp Evenrude. Just google the number if interested.

Sure but this motor is in the UK and may be marketed differently.-----The hose by the generator to me appears to be a hot water hose for automatic choke.----The 28 HP never had the hot water choke.-------So far the original poster has not posted more pictures.-------This can be cleared up instanly with some pictures ?????????

Gents once again thanks for all ya inputs I will post more pics hopefully tomorrow.I contacted the supplier of all the parts and they have also confirmed that it is def a 40hp and that some of the early models had manual choke and that the following had hot water chokes or something?
As I said I will post further pics asap.
