This was a posting for a 58 35hp but it should be very close to the same as you have.

Remove the cover plate on the side of the drive housing that the shifter rod is behind. This has 2 screws holding the cover on. Then remove either the top or bottom bolt from the brass coupler that holds the upper and lower shift rods together. Loosen the other bolt enough that the coupler can be spread open but will stay on one of the shift rods. Take care doing this because these bolts strip out very easy. Once the one bolt is removed turn the coupler to one side so you can place a screw driver in the slot in the coupler and spread the coupler euough on the end that the bolt was removed from that it will let the rod slide out. Then remove the bolts that hold the lower unit on the motor and slide the unit down and off of the motor. Take note of the water tube guide (if it has one) and water tube (this it has) so you can get it back in place when the time comes for reinstalling the unit. Try not to remove the water tube from the motor. Remove it from the pump when lowering the unit.I'm not sure with your model but some had 2 water tubes. Remove the screws that hold the pump housing onto the lower uint. Slide the water pump housing up the driveshaft to remove it. Take care not to loose the impeller drive pin from the shaft if the impeller comes up with the housing.Take care of the O ring on the top of the driveshaft. If this is bad or missing replace it. It holds the grease onto the top of the driveshaft when installed in the crankshaft. If the impeller did not come off with the housing then slide it up the driveshaft to remove it. Again take care not to loose the impeller drive pin. Check all seals for damage both upper and lower and for signs that the seal has cut into the driveshaft. If there is damage to the driveshaft from the seal the seal will not keep water out of the gear case. To install. Put the new impeller in place on the driveshaft (make sure drive pin is in place) Put a small amount of grease on the inside of the pump housing where the impeller makes contact. This will keep from burning the impeller on start up until the water gets to it. Slide the pump housing on the driveshaft over the impeller. Turn the driveshaft clockwise while the inmeller is entering the pump housing. Replace the housing screws and reverse the rest to install the unit. You may need to turn the prop while trying to get the drive shaft into the crankshaft. Make sure to put some spline grease on the top of the driveshaft before installing it. Aligning the shifter coupler can be a fun task. Take care not to drop or strip the bolts for the coupler. Good luck.
