1960 Gale Buccaneer 35ph water pump replacement

Just bought a 1960 Gale Buccaneer 35hp and a 1961 Evinrude Lark III at a garage sale for $50. The guy knew very little about the motors. i'm working on the Gale now. AFter about fifteen minutes of cleaning plugs, checking wires etc., she fired right up! Pumped water great. Next day started it and no water. I'm assuming water pump/impeller, but i've never worked on an outboard motor before. Is changing the water pump a major task? I would also appreciate any information/pics of this motor in the original condition. This one has been painted green, and i'm curious of the original colors. Also, locating the decals for this motor will also be on my list, so any information on the decals would be great. Thanks in advance for the information. This is also my first forum post EVER, so dont rake me over too bad if i somehow didnt manage to follow the forum rules.!
Thanks,
BBO

Thanks a million kimcrwbr1 .....that little note about removing the upper bolt completely is the reason is visit this kind of forum. I jacked with that lower unit this morning(i work night shift) for thirty minutes before going back inside and rereading your message and ..........Tah DAh!!! Lower unit came out with no problem.....thanks again. and yes.....the impeller was thrashed.

ok.....but curiousity killed the cat.........why the note about the driveshaft clockwise only....is that to keep the impeller vanes from going in the wrong direction, and possibly breaking them? I know this may sound silly....but i really want to know why.....so i understand better....and thanks in advance!!

Hey kimcrwbr1: i have finally been able to get back on this motor......got her running....but it seems to only run on full-half choke.....and then with the lean/rich switch(the bigger one) all the way to lean. When it finally gets to running somewhat smoothly....it has a bad miss.......which idles the motor back down and we start over again.......seems to be fuel coming out of the choke/intake area after a while.......is this maybe the float sticking, etc???
