Idled it in to the dock today. No top end, had top end then quit. Went to pull it off the boat to take to the shop tomorrow. Black oil sludge coming from the water intake????:( Thought is maybe fuel pump is dumping fuel back into the bottom end of the motor?? Possible??
 
Unburned fuel coming out of the exhaust, not uncommon on those engines, especially if they are not running properly.
Did you loose spark on a cylinder?
 
I did, the fuel pump was not working right. Loaded up and fouled a plug. I must have been running on one cylinder coming in. New fuel pump today. New plugs, and good spark, so we'll try again.
