i have a 1959 johnson that leak's gas real bad is there any where that i can get a repair manual or is it better to let some one that has vast years of experience work on somthing like the fuel system with the presurerized tank

i also have a 53 15hp johnson

i also have a 53 15hp johnson with the same problems they both run top notch but the fuel leak limits the use that i get never. It pours out of the lean rich knob when the motor is tilted up and out of the connection of the gas tank /motor i think that it is the o rings there on the 15 . On the 18 it is all carb

The o-rings on the connector

The o-rings on the connector are readily avaiable and easy to replace.loosen the cap on the tank and run the carburetor dry before tilting the motor.

Any "good" OMC dealer

Any "good" OMC dealership should have these o-rings in stock. You push in the center brass plunger with say a tooth pick and pry out the old ring with a small pointed screwdriver. Work the new o-ring in . If you run into a dealer that will not co-operate i can post the part#

Your problem of fuel pouring

Your problem of fuel pouring out the adjustment knob sounds like a bad float and not a leaking tank.

You might also check the dual line hose for cracks. I have a tank for my 1957 Johnson 35 that leaked like crazy. The only problem was dry rot in the lines. All of the seals & O-rings were fine.
