1959 Lark 35HP setting the coil gap!

Searching did not produce any specifics.

I am going thru the Lark on my recently acquired 59' Thompson Sea Coaster 16 and mistakenly removed the old coils without realizing there was no obvious way to set the coil to flywheel gap. It would appear there are a few different coil set up in the service manual and other than turning on a lathe I see no direction for the style in this picture. I found this picture on someone else s post and borrowed it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Actually there is a special tool to line them up.------Called a locating ring.----------Or simply slide them back so that the heels are not protruding past the mounting bosses.

To align the coils properly, have the metal vertical portion of the coil yokes aligned with the inside edge of the bevel that exists on the top portion of the aluminum seat upon which the coils sit. This creates the proper distance between the coils and the flywheel magnets. Faulty alignment creates friction and the yokes of the coils heat up, turn blue and expand.

Thousands of parts in my remaining stock. Not able to list them all. Let me know what you need and I'll look it up for you. Visit my eBay auction at:

You must install the plug wire and boot then install the coil tak a couple pics so you know how it goes back together on the bottom of the plate.
