1959 35 horse Evinrude piston Rings

Fact-------You need to measure the bores.-------Are they standard size ?-----Has the motor been bored out 0.020" ?--------Is it o.040" O/S ?-----You need to fit the correct size pistons & rings in the bores.-----You can not fit 0.040" O/S rings in a standard bore.----Post your measurements if you are now clear on what needs to be done.-----Looks like a 0.020" piston and matching rings are available on this site.------Doing it right is the best option here !

If is has been bored oversize there should be a number stamped on the top of the piston indicating the oversize, no number it should be standard bore. Note I said should be. Who knows what happened over the last 60 years.
 
Make sure you examine the bore and have a responsible machinist or mechanic check piston size and condition. It's probably standard and may need reboring. This Golden Jubilee 35, I have noticed, can break rings. The bore may be fine, however, but the piston may not be good for re-use. In this case you may be able to find a standard piston or pistons. If you can post a photo or 2 it might help. Clean off the top of the piston and check for any stamping of numbers.
