I just recently got this motor

I just recently got this motor off an old chap. I read some posts regarding the bottom end oil. Mine also says Hypoid oil. I understand I am to substitute "HiVis 80/90w". Joe... if you are reading this...you mentioned to look for milky appearances in the oil. When I went to drain the oil it had to be forced out by squirting the new oil in and came out like white grease. Is this the same but prolonged condition or is it possible that the old guy put grease in it? Also I am guessing it is a 1958 by pictures online as I cannot find the model number anywhere.

"Model number would be (usually) on a small plate on the port transom bracket. Some older models had the plate secured to the middle of the tilt tube/bolt. Also, look on the powerhead for a core plug with the model and serial numbers.

Yea... sounds like he pushed grease in there. The gears make a couple revolutions and are then revolving in air. Not a good idea. Use the HiVis."
 
thats common around here i kno

thats common around here i know of a few guys that have done that /had a 69 40 hp /lower unit full of grease
