1958 18 hp electric start Johnson

I have a 1958 18 hp electric start Johnson. It has a plug outlet for the electric harness trying to figure out what each pin controls. been looking for a electric harness unable to find one figure I would try to make one any information would be appreciated

Simply disconnect one wire at a time on the engine... then with one lead of a ohm meter on that wire, start touching the pins of the connector. When you obtain a continuity reading, you have found what pin does what.

Johnson .jpg this in the plug under the cowl in the front for the electric harness there is no solenoid on the motor

The solenoid was in a box mounted on the transom.----It is going to be hard to find the original wiring bits.------You have to adapt and make something up !!!

Read post six it will show you how the wiring needs to be your on your own to make that happen just do not touch battery pos to the small black wires from the armature plate for even a split second you will need new coil/s.
I will have to find a small solenoid to fit under the hood do they make them?

I had a 1958 Evinrude that I mounted the solenoid just to the rear and above the side plates on the starboard side. Then ran wires to starter switch and starter. I mounted a push button starter near the front through the cowl. Then a Black cable fro ground on block to battery an Red cable from solenoid to battery. I eliminated that plug assembly thing as my boat did not have a remote starter and control. I have pictures I can email you I you want them.
