I am replacing the water pump and need to know where this saddle goes it is rotated sideways and I am afraid to turn it can someone help me out on which way it should be positioned.

That's not a "saddle", it's called a shift lever. Notice that there are two protrusions on the end portions of that lever.

There is a "cradle" that slides on the shifter "clutch dog" which is located between the forward and reverse gears. When the gears and prop shaft assembly is situated in the lower unit, the protrusions of the shift lever extend into the sides of the cradle.

I just can't seem to get it back together the way it came out. It looks so simple I have the diagram and everything is the same and just dropped my cradle pin and can't find it

When I took everything apart everything looked brand new. Should I still replace those?

ok I have everything back together and started it and it only runs for a short time and quits .. i pump it until its primed and it seems like its not staying primed.. i didnt replace the gas line i cleaned it out and it is getting gas to the carb. does anyoone have any suggestions.
