My Clymer manual indicates 1956-1959 motors require a pressurized tank!
I have a 1957 35hp Evinrude and a 1958 Johnson 35hp Super Sea Horse both of these motors look like they have fuel line connections for the non-pressurized tanks there are fittings on the intake manifold for hose line but are not being used. The manual does not have a diaigram of the fuel system. Help I am confused maybe someone tried to convert them?

Thanks for any help.

Bill

The 1957 model..... follow the fuel line FROM the carburetor back towards the fuel connector. If the line leads to a fuel pump first, then to the connector, you have a non pressurized fuel system. The connector will have two prongs, one pointed, one rounded somewhat.

If on the other hand, the line leads directly to the fuel connector, it's a pressurized system. The connector will have three prongs, one pointed, two rounded.

Thanks joereeves and mnobfan,

Both motors have a fuel pump in the power head indicating a non-pressurized tank..

1 more question on the 57 motor there are 2 fitting for a hose to connect to in the intake manifold 1 connects to the choke housing assembly the other is on the bottom center of the manifold and in not connect to anything this one is not shown in my manual.

I found out what the extra fitting is for on the intake manifold, it is the air side of the old pressurized tanks system which needs to be plugged.

Bill, yep..... plug it. It would be best if you removed the intake manifold and did away with the rubber valve asembly on the leaf plate assembly associated with that fitting to eliminate a pressure built up on the fitting side of that valve.
