"I have a 10 hp 1956. ran great 3 weeks ago. last week took out ran fine out in the lake, then would not restart warm. I have changed coils, point,s plugs and condensers. same thing seems to get very hot quick then won't start. took out impeller and seems o k. ordered new 1 as long as had apart. I'm lost here. is there a way to flush the intake? any Ideas I'm up in arms on this. thanks Mousty!!!"

From your description of events it seems the engine overheated until it stopped running and then would not restart - is this correct?
 
"Yes! it started when we took

"Yes! it started when we took it out to the lake. went out 400yds or so. shut off to fish, in about 15-20 minutes would not start. had to use trolling motor to get in. Replaced coils,points, and condensers. ran in barrel, ran good then rough. I shut off and would not start. Saturday I am replacing inpeller ( have a kit) any Ideas????"

Thats the old twin hose, are you getting gas while running?

It is very likely you have som

It is very likely you have some pin holes in the exhaust plate baffel. This lets the exhaust over power the water pump and blows all the water from the power head. Remove the side cover and hold the plate up to the sun shine and look for holes. A bad head gasket can do the same thing. But usually runs rough. You also get a free look at the pistons.
