1956 30hp big twin prop shaft seal orientation

Ok so the seal carrier is the skinny one with the two holes you can use a punch to push out the old seal.

My question is which way does the seal go into the carrier and then which way does the carrier go onto the prop shaft.

The seal lip & spring point toward the oil.

If I remember right some of those old seals were "double lipped".
