1956 28 hp 28 spl

hi i just bought a 1956 alumacraft with a 28 spl evinrude , my question is there is two like 8th inch holes in the lower unit when i run the motor a little water comes out but when i shut it off in a coupleof minutes oil starts guhsing out of these holes. is that common. thanks joe

These are casting drain holes-------------Factory drilled to keep castings empty in freezing areas of the land.------------Keep them clear.---------------I have seen them plugged with RTV by those attempting to stop a perceived leak.-----------Pressure test the lower unit if you think it might be lower unit oil.
