"I can't seem to get my 7.5 to run worth a damn I have rebuilt the carb changed the coils, point wires, plugs, resealed lower unit and put in new water pump and new fuel and air lines but the motor still runs really rough I still use the pressure tank and it holds pressure well .i was considering de-carbing Any help would be appreciated the motor was stored for between 35 and 40 years but it fired up after 2 pulls it also seems to have excessive smoke and alot of oil in the barrel after running"

Have you checked compression on this motor.Checked timing with a timing light and the marks on the magplate and flywheel?????

To the best of my knowledge the only timing adustment is between the cam and the follower to synchronize the carb with the ignition I have verified that it is correct if I'm missing something let me know I am showing 108 psi in the top cylinder and 106 in the bottom

I still have the ceramic fuel

I still have the ceramic fuel filter in but I did clean it and blew it out with 150 psi air Maybe I will try to replace it

The points can be timed to the flywheel. For best spark the plugs must fire inbetween the two marks on the flywheel.Hook up a timing light and shine it at the flywheel and the two vertical marks on the magplate. You will see the timing mark on the flywheel. There is nothing like good trouble shooting and testing.

i had cleaned the filter on mi

i had cleaned the filter on mine also and blown it out to . it didn't do a lot of good the new ones don't cost that much the other posts are well worth looking into also.
