" This may be a long post but

" This may be a long post but I want to give all information that I know so as to get the best possible answer. I own a 1955 Evinrude 25hp motor. I am new to boating and made a rookie mistake-I ran on the lake using gasoline that was in the tank when I bought the boat on eBay. It died in the middle of the lake and wouldn't restart. The model is 25920, and I need some advice as to what steps to take to drain the fuel, clean any filters, and what to look for to determine whether the plugs need to be replaced. I know this motor runs like a dream, I just can't get it started after my poor maiden voyage. Thanks for any help you can provide. "

"Jdog.... Inspect the carburet

"Jdog.... Inspect the carburetor float chamber to see if there's a small screw plug (drain), if so carefully remove it, then gently blow out the fuel system with low pressure air via the ingoing fuel line to the engine. If that screw isn't there, remove the lower (high speed needle valve) instead to drain the carb. Be sure to count the exact turns in to seat that needle valve before removing it so that you can return it to its original setting.

You can safely use the 50/1 mixture, and 87 octane will be fine.

You are correct that model 25920 is a 25hp 1955 Evinrude model.

Use Champion J6C plugs in that engine, set the gap ot .030.

Make sure you have compression, about 100+ psi and even on both cylinders. Spark, with the plugs out, should jump a 1/4" gap on that model.

" Or when you remove the high

" Or when you remove the high speed valve, you can also remove the bowl that has a filter in it and you can blow air threw that and it sould come out th ehigh speed valve.
i just replaced the points and the cylinders and the coils in my evinrude. i just got it on an old antique wod boat, which i can figure out what the make is. but them motor didnt run when i first got it, every thing was dry rotted because it haddnt been ran since 1968 thats what the old hull sticker said. i also have to change out the impeller.
